CERT Training

Are you ready? In the event of an emergency are you prepared to not only take care of yourself and significant others but help your neighbors and community in the event of a disaster? If not, or even if you think you are but would like to hone your skills, consider becoming a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. Below, and in the following pages, will provide information regarding the CERT program, how you can get involved, and links to websites that provide specific information on different disaster scenarios.

The City is developing Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT's) to assist the Fire Department and other emergency services in responding to the needs of the community in the event of a major disaster. The CERT program is designed to get Manteca residents working together with City staff and the Fire Department to help themselves, their neighbors, and the community in the event of a disaster such as a major earthquake, flood, or fire. All participants become trained in basic disaster preparedness, light search and rescue, disaster medicine, and fire fighting. This training is provided at no cost to Manteca residents and could save your life or the life of your loved ones.

The training will enable residents to be:

  • Better prepared in self sufficiency following a disaster;
  • Able to provide emergency assistance to their families and immediate neighbors;
  • Able to work as a team in their own neighborhood in the event of a major disaster.

The CERT training consists of six 3 hour classes, plus 1 Saturday class, the last of which will be a hands-on exercise at the Police Department drill ground.

Qualified instructors will teach classes once a week from 6:00 pm - 9:00 p.m. and Saturday,
9:00 am - 2:00 pm and will provide students with a training manual that they may keep for ongoing reference.

Upon successful completion of all five classes, each student will receive a Certificate of Completion, a CERT I.D., and vest.

All residents are encouraged to attend the training -- no special skills are required.
For enrollment or questions about the program, please leave a message on the CERT Hotline at (209) 239-8441 or Email your questions to rosborn@ci.manteca.ca.us
