City Offices Closed

Just a reminder:

City offices will be closed as a result of upcoming holidays and unpaid furloughs that will be taken by City employees. Offices will be closed from December 24 through January 3. There will be no "starts" or "stops" for water, sewer or garbage service during this time. Solid waste collection will remain on its regular schedule. Remember, routes scheduled for Christmas Day or New Year’s Day will be picked up on the following day.

This is the second round of furloughs this year. City offices were also closed the week of Thanksgiving. The furloughs saved the city nearly $1 million in labor costs in the current budget year as each employee's compensation has been reduced by 3.9 percent. Furloughs will likely continue for the next two budget years as we continue to find ways to cut costs in these tough economic times.

CM.. How about posting a copy of your check stub before and after the New Year so we can see how much you have given up to help out the cuts to City spending?

Just like every employee, I gave up 3.9% in 2009. In 2010, I along with all executive management will be taking a cut in excess of all other employees...approx. 11% plus the furlough.

In real dollar terms, my compensation is being reduced by about $30,000 in 2010.

I have news for city employees who are down the food chain, if you get to make city manager some day, then you can become the general. In the meantime, act your rank and accept your pay. If you don't like it, then find another job.

We're all getting pretty bored of the fact that you city employees are whining about the conditions and pay when this entire country is hurting because of legislators in SAC and a**holes in D(N)C. Our tax dollars are being taken to the extreme and we too don't have enough to make ends meet, but you keep bitching about Mr. Pinkerton and what he's doing. Under the law, just like for you too, one's paycheck stub is private and is their own business, NOT YOURS!

You need to focus on the current council. There still needs to be changes and those who have been on there for more than 8 years need to go. We need new blood and new ideas from those who can deliver them. The 3 current incumbents need to go just like McNerney.

If you are referring to me as a City Employee then you would be mistaken, just a curious taxpayer and I may be wrong but this blog is open to everyone and all public employees pay is supposed to be open and available to the general public.
The city workers do a fine job here in Manteca, they provide more service with a smile or friendly waive for less money and appreciation then anywhere I have lived in the past 25 years, so why don't you go spit your venom in the Manteca Bulletin where someone might care?
I asked a simple question and got a descent answer here in the CM's blog, I would still like to know what that equates to in take home pay But I suppose the paper will print it after the New Year anyway like they have in the past.

Grow up! And if you can't figure it out then there are classes you can take at the adult school that might help you.

Blasting about the blog being open is your mouth going off dear tax paying citizen, never mentioned this at all. You can use the time you'd be waiting on the MB to take up some of those classes mentioned...you are after all paying for them. I'll even give you a number to start with. 2080. It's easy from here.

You appear to be the only person blasting anything around here Manteca Response. You should take a good look at yourself before being so quick to judge others. Perhaps if you think before you speak you would be able to communicate with others in a more coherent manner.
