City Manager's Blog

Steve Pinkerton has been the City Manager of Manteca since June 16, 2008. He served as Redevelopment Director for the City of Stockton, California from 1994 to 2008. He has also worked for the cities of Long Beach and Redondo Beach. Born in Wisconsin, Mr. Pinkerton has a Master’s degree in Urban Planning and and a Master's Degree in Economics from the University of Southern California, and Bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Geography from the University of Missouri.

Comparing 2009 to 1930

A lot of folks are trying to compare today's economic woes to the depression. While I agree with many that we are likely experiencing the worst economic decline since the depression, the chart below does a good job of showing how severe the 1930s were compared to today:

    Excellent graphic! I don't think many people realize how dramatic the difference is between this recession and the depression. Keep spreading the "good" news.

    Yes, I was worried by the economic devastation, but now I realize we are on easy street. Let the good times roll!
