The Manteca Police Departments outstanding staff is not limited to our employees. The Police Department has over 200 people of all ages and backgrounds serving their community as volunteers. The value of volunteers cannot be overstated. The services provided by these individuals make the Department more efficient, expand our ability to reach out to our community, and save the tax payers thousands of dollars each year.
In Manteca, police volunteers keep our community beautiful by abating abandoned vehicles, removing illegal signs, and cleaning up graffiti. They help safeguard the safety of our children by patrolling the elementary schools during school hours. They increase the safety of our community by being a presence at shopping centers and community events. They participate an a variety of crime prevention programs such as the "Street Beat" cable television program, Neighborhood Watch, Sober Graduation, and Business Watch/Merchants Alert.
Volunteer programs are tailored to specific age groups, training levels, and area of interest. The Police Explorers include youths from 14 to 21 years old who are interested in exploring a possible career in law enforcement. The Police Reserves are individuals who have been trained to be police officers who work with our officers on a part time basis. The Citizens Police Academy Graduates are individuals of all ages who have completed the Citizens Police Academy. These individuals donate their special talents to specific projects and programs within the Department and the City. The SHARPs are members of our community over 50 years old who volunteer in all areas of the Department.
